This West Coast line of Dark Brahmas is of unmistakable quality – noted for their size, temperament, bright silver base color, and distinct markings. Customers have been showing and winning with these birds across the United States. The Dark (Silver Penciled) Brahma is a heritage bird recognized in the first published breed standard in 1874. This line boasts the multiple silvering genetic factors that produce the bright silver hackle and wings in the males, and silver white base color in the females.  These birds exhibit the great size and bone structure that the Brahmas are known for and are incredibly docile and easy to work with. I work each generation to enhance the open tails, tight comb and wattles, and long saddle feathers that are the finishing touches of a well-bred Brahma. A stunning bird in its own right, Dark Brahmas of this quality can also be used to improve other patterned brahmas such as Partridge, Silver Laced, and even the fully melanized varieties – Black and Blue. Because these Dark Brahmas are offered only from my top matings and their productive season each spring is short, supply is limited. I do not keep a waitlist and orders will generally be filled in the order they are paid, chick availability and weather permitting.

I began offering started chicks in 2019 as an alternative to adult birds after a series of USPS rate increases made shipping large birds more cost prohibitive. This is a rare opportunity to purchase started chicks from my top, cutting-edge matings from proven lines that have been handed down by generations of Master Breeders. Chicks offer an opportunity for the buyer to select from a larger number of birds for their breeding and show programs. While I can’t guarantee they’ll all be show winners – you’ll be working with my best genetics and have the same opportunity to raise a show champion from them as I do. Each shipment will include an extra chick. Groups of mixed-color chicks (breeder’s choice)  are easier to fill and so may be filled sooner. Chicks are approximately three weeks at time of shipping and are straight-run. I am offering chicks in groups of 6, 8, and 12 – large quantities may be available upon request.

  • I have shipped adult stock for years, and due to the increased cost of shipping began offering started chicks a couple of years ago. Chicks are straight-run – unsexed – and approximately three weeks of age at shipment. Purchasing started chicks is more economical than adult stock and less risky than hatching eggs.  With chicks you have many more birds to work with for the equivalent cost of an adult bird – and because these chicks are out of our top pens you have the same opportunity to raise a champion bird from these genetics as I do here. I offer started chicks in groups of 6, 8, and 12 – and each shipment includes an extra. Larger quantities may be arranged.

Chicks are generally shipped October through May as availability and weather permit, with March through May being peak season. Fall shipments may be available in some varieties as well.  As these chicks are produced in small numbers from premium stock, availability and wait time depend on how well the birds are producing. We do not keep a waitlist, so chicks are shipped in the order they are paid. Chicks are shipped within the lower 48 states via USPS Express Mail on Tuesdays, and a specific ship date will be confirmed once chicks come available. The tracking number will be communicated once the chicks have shipped, and we ask that you communicate as soon as the chicks arrive. Chicks are guaranteed to arrive alive and we include an extra in each box. Any loss as the result of shipping will be managed via the USPS insurance program and replacements will be shipped when they come available. We do not offer shipping refunds for shipments that arrive past the scheduled delivery time. This purchase is not refundable.

In preparation for receiving your chicks, we encourage you to have a clean brooder prepared. It is a good idea to contact your local post office the week of shipment to let you know that you will be receiving birds and to call you for pick up as soon as they arrive. Newly arrived chicks will benefit from electrolytes in their water.
